A quick update today telling you about a few updates and errors that we have fixed.
Our biggest news is that we’ve just upgraded our web server! With so many people now using the site I’ll admit that it’s been getting sluggish and user registrations have been putting a massive strain on our existing server, sometimes even putting it out of action. As of today, you should notice the site be a lot more responsive 🐇 and less sluggish 🐢(hoorah!). We’ve been meaning to update the server for a while but have not been in a position to do so due to the extra costs involved. The new web server has in fact increased our monthly website costs by 350% 😲! So expect me to keep reminding you that we operate this website for FREE for the benefit of all. If you’d like to contribute to what we do please think about buying us a coffee (we need a coffee, seriously!) via our Ko-fi page.
While we haven’t been as active on the site recently due to some other commitments, we have been fixing the odd error here and there that have been brought to our attention or that we have stumbled across.
First up we changed the Caesar cipher wheel code based on feedback so that it now won’t accept characters and will only accept numbers. Something that we obviously overlooked on implementation but something that we should have really thought about. Entering characters caused the wheel to continuously spin round which might have confused people!
Second, since updating our LMS and theme we hadn’t noticed that when users were not logged in and they tried to click on a course, that nothing actually happened for them. This was due to the way the new theme handled logins which we weren’t aware of. By adding their popup login system to the site, we’ve now managed to get it so that if a non logged in user clicks on a course and attempts to start it, a pop up login box will appear that the user can either login to or register through.
This has also allowed us to get rid of about 3 plugins that we no longer need and allowed us to add a menu system to the account logo on the menu bar that allows quick access to account settings. The more you know!
That’s been about it for updates, but as ever we’re busy behind the scenes working on other things to add to the site and improve.
Many thanks for your support!
