Logic gate puzzles are go!
In this update I can confirm the latest part of the site that I have been working on is all about logic gates.
This will be a 2 part release – this is part 1 and I’m super excited to work on part 2 in the near future.
The part released today is all about students building logic gate circuits from given truth tables and is suitable for KS3 and KS4 students. It covers the main logic gates AND, OR and NOT which are covered by the 3 main Computer Science GCSE specifications (AQA, OCR and Edexcel).
The truth tables given go all the way from 1 input to 1 output to 3 input and 1 output puzzles as this would be the maximum number students would expect from the Computer Science specification. In the future I may look at adding an extension / challenge variation of this puzzle that sticks with the 3 main gates but has a lot more inputs to really stretch and challenge students of a higher ability.
My intention is also to go back and add a KS5 version of this as well but for now (as you can probably tell from the site in general) I’m focussing on KS3 and KS4.
The puzzles themselves are randomised every time you load the page and so far there are 7 puzzles. As with everything that I add to the site – I’ve attempted to make this mobile friendly so it can be accessed on a tablet or a phone to help students who don’t have access to a full computer at home.
So please take a look – https://computerscienced.co.uk/site/logic-gate-puzzle-1/ have a go at building the logic circuit from the truth tables and see if you can work some of the harder ones out!
Thanks for reading and thank you for your support.
