Introducing our latest website feature – Vigenere Cipher tasks.
Following on from our very popular Caesar Cipher wheel, the Vigenere cipher goes one step above and is considered a much harder cipher to crack.
For teachers, if you teach the Caesar Cipher, the Vigenere Cipher is the next logical step to talk about, and you can even use the Caesar wheel again for the Vigenere Cipher!
We have 2 exercises/tasks available – encryption and decryption. Just like with the Caesar Cipher task, students will be given a random phrase to encrypt or decrypt with a random encryption key word.

The tasks use the Caesar Cipher wheel, but if you prefer (or if the students prefer) they can try using the Vigenere Cipher grid which is available online or is available in a Microsoft Word document that can be printed out.
The Vigenere Cipher is a great follow on from the Caesar Cipher and encourages students to try and think about how encryption can be made better / more secure – this may form part of your discussions with Caesar Cipher and leads in nicely to the Vigenere Cipher.
We really hope that you enjoy this new feature and resource!
