Christmas sabotage – week 1

Christmas as we know it is in jeopardy.

Tired of making these ‘new’ kinds of digital toys, a rogue faction of Elves has risen from the factory, intent on destroying Christmas.

Santa is worried, so worried in fact, that he called you when an envelope slid under his door containing this coded message.

Word round the factory floor is that the rogue faction is using a Caesar cipher to encrypt their messages and recruit more Elves.

Help Santa by decrypting the message for him, and help save Christmas!

Enter the shift value:

The encrypted message found reads:

vwlyhapvu qvssf ilssz jvttlujlz ha aoyll wt joypzathz lcl

A helpful Elf who has ‘connections’ has said that rogue Elves normally use the number 7 – try this as the shift value!

This is an online version of the Caesar cipher wheel. Simply enter the shift value into the box and the outside “A” will rotate to the correct shift value.

To encode a message find the letter from the OUTSIDE you want to use and the letter next to it on the INSIDE is the coded letter you should write down.

To decode a message find the letter on the INSIDE you want to decode and the letter next to it on the OUTSIDE is the decoded letter.

To write a code (encrypt a message) work from the OUTSIDE to the INSIDE

To work out a code (decrypt a message) go from the INSIDE to the OUTSIDE
